How do I transfer eBooks and other files into the MENTOR?

A

Please first save your files on your computer. Then follow these steps:

1.Use a USB cable to connect your device to your computer.
2.If your Mentor is on, the screen should display the words "USB LINK", which indicates that it is now connected to your computer.
3.On your computer, go to "My Computer" to find an icon for "USB removable storage", which is the Mentor's memory. Click on that icon to open the folder.
4.Then select files you want to transfer, and copy & paste them or drag & drop them into the "USB removable storage" folder.
5.Click on the "safely remove hardware" icon. It will tell you that it's now safe to disconnect your Mentor. Then unplug the USB cable. Now you should see your new files displayed in the main menu of your Mentor.

Q: How do I use the memory of a SD card? How do I put files onto it?

A

Please go through the following steps:

1. Insert a SD card (up to 4GB in size) into the SD card slot of the MENTOR.
2. Connect the MENTOR to your computer with the USB cable.
3. Your computer should now recognize the MENTOR's internal memory as a USB removable drive, and also recognize the SD card as another USB removable drive.
4. You can now open the SD card drive and transfer files into it by copying and pasting (or drag and drop) from your computer.

 
Q What is the warranty policy for the MENTOR?
A

We offer a one-year parts and labor warranty if the MENTOR has a malfunction. The customer is responsible for shipping and insurance fees. If you would like to send your device to us, please first contact us for a RMA number via email at support@astak.com and obtain a confirmation that you can send the MENTOR back to us. After we receive your package, we will either repair the MENTOR or replace it.

*NOTE: Please save your music and eBook files on your computer before sending the MENTOR back to us for repair. We will not be responsible for lost files.

 
Q Q: Does the MENTOR support MP3 files?
A No, currently the MENTOR does not support MP3 files or audiobooks.
 
Q How are images and pictures displayed on the MENTOR?
A The MENTOR uses a four-level grayscale display, which means that pictures will be displayed in four shades of grey.
 
Q Does the MENTOR have a color screen?
A No, the MENTOR uses E-ink and E-paper technology that does not strain the eyes, which means that the ‘ink' is black and the ‘paper' is a light shade of grey. Color display is not possible yet because color would require a backlight, which causes more eye strain. However, an advantage of the E-ink and E-paper technology is that you can read 8,000 pages of text on a single charge.
 
Q How can I increase the font size on the MENTOR?
A Depending on the format, the MENTOR displays up to 8 font sizes. After opening an eBook, press the "Menu Button" to reach the E Reading window. In the E Reading window, select "FONT FAMILY" and press ENTER to reach FAMILY window. This will tell you the font type and give you 8 choices of font size.
 
Q Is the MENTOR compatible with Windows Vista, Mac, etc?
A Yes, it's compatible with all Microsoft Windows versions, including Vista, and also compatible with Macs with USB 2.0+.
 
Q How do I bookmark?
A First open an eBook, then press "Menu" button to reach the E Reading window. On the E Reading window, select the first item "BOOKMARK" and press ENTER. Under the BOOKMARK window, you can choose to Add Bookmark, or remove bookmarks, or jump to the first/last/previous/next bookmark with the other options in the Bookmark menu. If you add a bookmark, a paper clip icon will display in the upper left corner of the book to indicate a bookmark has been added. Please refer to your User Manual for more detailed information on this topic.
 
Q How do I switch between the MENTOR’s internal memory and the SD card memory?
A In the MENTOR, the contents of the internal memory and your SD card memory (if it is inserted), are combined. So, the library conveniently combines and displays all of your content under one "bookshelf", so that you don't need to switch between memories.
 
Q General questions about the battery charge indicator:
A Please fully charge the Mentor's battery for at least 12 hours overnight before using it. In the beginning, the battery gauge on the Mentor screen is only a rough guide to the amount of battery power left. So we strongly suggest recharging your Mentor when the battery gauge shows there is ¼ battery life remaining.
 
Q Which SD cards can I use?
A Your MENTOR is compatible with SD cards up to 4GB in size. Any brand of SD card will work as long as it is 4GB or smaller.
 
Q Is the SD slot SDHC compatible?
A No, not yet. But the MENTOR has 512 MB of internal memory and supports SD cards up to 4 GB.
Q Is there a fast way to “flip” through the pages of an eBook when I want to skip several pages at once?
A You can use the "Go To Page" function to jump to a specific page. Please refer to your User Manual for more information.
Q I love my MENTOR and want to care for it. How can I best do this?
A Keep it dry at all times. Clean the screen GENTLY, and do not use Windex. Use a soft, lint free cloth. A good eyeglass cleaner on the screen is ok, but just a little bit. You can use a can of Electronics Duster, such as "Blow Off", and clean around the buttons.
Q What about languages? Is English the only language on the MENTOR?
A Your MENTOR supports most major languages, such as English, Chinese, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Russian. Press the Menu button, then select Languages from the menu and choose the language you prefer.

Q If your MENTOR freezes or other problems occur:

If you run into any other problems, please try the following before contacting technical support:
1. Like all electronic devices with a rechargeable battery, plenty of power is essential. If the unit does have any problems, first plug it in overnight to ensure that the battery is fully charged. Please use the included power adaptor. Recharge fully overnight as a first step.

2. There is a reset button on the back side of the device. It is a tiny hole about the diameter of a paper clip. Use a paper clip end and push GENTLY into this hole for about 2 seconds, and the device should then automatically shut down and then restart. You should not lose any data when doing this "soft reset". Now check to see if your problem has disappeared.

3. If steps 1 and 2 above did not help, open the battery door. Remove the battery and then wait ten seconds before putting the battery correctly back into place. Close the battery door by gently tightening the screw. Restart the MENTOR manually. You should not lose any data during this process. Now check to see if your problem has disappeared.

We want very much to keep you pleased with your product, so please be patient and give us a chance to make things right. Your warranty is for one full year, parts and labor only.
